hydrazine hydrate (3.6mL,47.58mmol,1 equivalent) was added dropwise to methanol (40mL) solution of methyl propionate (4.2mL,47.58mmol,1 equivalent) at 0 ℃. The reaction mixture was stirred at room temperature for 30 minutes. Add salt water (10mL) and then remove methanol under vacuum. The remaining water layer was extracted with EtOAc(4*75mL). The combined organic phase was dried with anhydrous MgSO4, filtered and concentrated in vacuum to give the title compound 1, 2-dihydro-3H-pyrazol-3-one as a white solid (3.2g,78% yield).
